Fian

Fian (FEE-an) is one of the nations that sends its initiates to Selamen, to be trained by the Druids of the Holy Isle. When they return they become priests, mages and lawgivers.

Except for the differences noted below, the nation is essentially the same as Selamen. Its coast is on the Inner Sea.

The people are called Fiani (fee-ARN-ee).

Magic is chancy here, and is used very sparingly. People who wish to become mages must go abroad to learn their spells.

Sandwiched between the monster-haunted land of Danaw and the inhuman country of Churnor Nock, Fiani respect warriors more than priests. Bands of young men swear blood-brotherhood and go raiding into Danaw and Cath, and the bravest also venture to Churnor Nock. This is illegal, but winked at by their chiefs. Raiding Westerness, however, has recently been strictly forbidden. If any foreigners come looking for the raiders, they meet only silence.

Fiani bury their dead in barrows rather than graves.
