Elizabeth and Alice were brought up in the Church of England, but Bertha and Emma were raised as Catholics. Abraham seems to have been a framework knitter all his life. He married Hannah December 1852 in Shardlow, Derbyshire.

The couple appear to have lived on Parsonwood hill with Abraham's parents and indeed Hannah died there on 8th Feb 1909. She was buried in the Catholic portion of the Church Lane Cemetery in Whitwick.
