* Louisa Whimsett was born in March 1864 in Faversham (which includes Teynham) according to FreeBMD on Rootsweb.com Worked in China (Insurance), left during the Boxer rebellion. Shipwrecked on a Japanese island. Stranded in Italy, Landed in Hastings, "...EH [Emily Hancock] and parents spent some time in China and Japan around the turn of the century. I believe her father [George William Hancock] was a minister and also had some connection with the insurance business. They were shipwrecked somewhere in the Far East on their way back to the UK. I think I remember correctly that the name of the ship was 'NIPPON KAISER MARU'. EH spoke of it often when we were children..." Moved to Leicester in about 1914. Died 1929. Buried Belgrave cemetery, Leicester In 1901, the family were in Hastings (St.Clement) George (33) a tobacconist, Louisa Wimsett (37) born in Kent Norton, May 10, Emily 8 and Frank (3 months) In 1881 Louisa Wemsett (sic) is a servant to William H Holman 70 Wincheap Street, the Vicarage, Thannington and Wilton in Bridge, Kent. AND Henry (56) and Matilda (57) Whimsett are living in Frinstead, Kent and there eldest daughter (at home) Emily Kate Whimsett |
