James Clist was a subject of family tradition. It was said that he was press ganged into making Winchester guns for the American Civil War. As his wife was there then the press-ganging idea seems tenuous, but records show that he was making guns (although it wasn’t the Winchester gun company) - and his daughter was born in the USA (Although records also show Minnie Matilda dau of James and Selina registered in Glos!). |
