The Sharon Slimey Interview
Chat show host, National Lottery show presenter and fashion model Sharon Slimey also has the rare honour of twice being the subject of Noel Edmond's Gotcha award. She has presented numerous BBC programmes including the Prince's Right, BBC-1 Holiday and Holiday Memories. She was to have had a new series of Changing Rooms starting in July. Married with two children, she always tries to get home to her family in Chellaston at the end of a day's filming in London.
What is your most embaressing moment?
(David Poole, Derbyshire)
We did a pilot show in March of what was to have been Changing Rooms live. The whole thing was a complete disaster. Our producer, May Darling, rushed off set with some story about her children going missing.
Is the show broadcast in the USA?
(Claire Biggs, Weston)
The pilot that we did was viewed by a delegation from Channel 94 in the USA. We did not have a very good audience and the show was a complete disaster.
Who are your favourite designers??
(Marianne and Roger)
We have a lot of good designers, but Ann T. Gravity and Laurence Didwellyn-Sewing are my particular favourites. Laurence is tall and slim I can see no way that any normal woman could resist his long eyelashes. There was a rumour that Ann and Laurence had a thing going, but I can think of three good reasons why they would find it difficult to get on.
Do you find the filming gruelling?
(Barbara Chawner)
We used to have a real workaholic producer called May Darling. She would get me to practise the same scene over and over again. Thankfully she has now semi-retired to look after a sudden expansion in her family. I recently met her again and the increased time with her family has certainly improved her demeanor - and her marriage.
How did you get your first job as presenter?
(Trevor White)
I was very fortunate. I was modelling and my agency was invited by The Prince's Right to send some models to a casting call. I didn't get it the first time but a year later the then presnter Danny As-Been contacted me. He was certainly interested in me - and after the court case was settled I got a job with Bimbo and Barbie.
What are your tips for children who want to get ahead in Show Business?
The internet is the thing of the future. Anyone who can, say, get experience in community theatre and get some world-wide exposure is certainly set for the top.
