THE MINIMUM NUMBER
OF TEXTS
Study time is best employed learning AS MUCH as you can about AS FEW texts as possible to cover all the possible questions, so that your answers can be of the highest quality (=most marks). If you write about a NOVEL in your FOLIO, then you can study SHAKESPEARE (which will always turn up) for the CRITICAL ESSAY, leaving POETRY for the CLOSE READING. This means that you will have only 1 major text + several poems which have been studied in class to remember for the actual exam - and the techniques from your FOLIO answer should make the CRITICAL ESSAY easy.
