Friday August 18, 2000 - Day 36
Last 24 hours
NICK IS
EVICTED
|
|
Nick
Wanted to Walk out a Hero
|
|
Nick's image may have hit an all time low, but the dastardly
character planned to walk out a hero on Friday night, taking the
place of Craig or Nichola's eviction. When Nick had finished
sobbing in the bedroom, he confronted the group and made attempt
to pick up the pieces of the five weeks he has spent in the
house.
"I just want to firstly apologise to you all for my
actions," he began. "I'm not going to justify them but
will give reasons. I come from a very big family and we tend to
compete. I spent 10 years at a boarding school where people are
constantly trying to put one over you and I worked in an
environment where people would stitch you up without batting an
eyelid."
The group watched in awe as Nick reeled off his exoneration,
saying he was simply playing the experience as a game. "If
you give up ten years of your life to be here you want to stay
here for as long as possible," Nick continued, eyes red
from sobbing. "It's purely a competition. I chose what I
saw was the best way to play. That way was wrong."
After some time alone and a chat with Thomas, Nick told the
group that leaving the house on his own accord would be
"the cowards way out," and that he was confident that
continuing to play the game would have been the only sensible
option. The group were not impressed - least of all Nichola.
"You're gonna stay in a group where no- one trusts
you," Nichola angrily assessed. "So you think tomorrow
me and Craig are gonna be up for eviction and you'll stay here?
I don't think we should go. I think you should go."
And then Nichola was off, fuming at the prospect of being
kicked out while Nick gets to stay another week. She called Nick
a joke and pitied evictees Sada, Andrew and Caroline for falling
foul to his schemes. Then Nick put his foot in it again.
"Don't cry over spilt milk," he told Nichola, not
recognising the current tone of the group.
"Watch your mouth," Anna said, correcting him.
"Your attitude now should be ' I completely
understand.'"
Thomas cooled the debate with his soft- spoken dialect,
adding an important suggestion for the ensemble to bat around.
"They should cancel the nominations for tomorrow
night," he said. "And Nick walks out instead."
After some thought the group agreed this to be the best
option and Nick left for the Diary Room to explain the idea to
Big Brother.
Big Brother decided, instead, to evict Nick.

Thomas
Is Very Disappointed
|
|
"I
am very disappointed," were the first words Nick heard from
Thomas when the Irish peacemaker approached him after his
breakdown.
After the group finally cottoned on to Nick's nomination
schemes earlier in the day, the shamed character sobbed to
Thomas how he plans to leave the house on his own accord.
"That is to be discussed at the table," Thomas said
formally. "Whether you talk to us today or tomorrow I think
you have to talk about it soon."
Along with Mel, who also helped steady Nick's tumbling
emotions, Thomas pacified Nick when he needed it most, after
being Nick's closest associate in the house the past week.
"I don't know if this is your character or if it is just
because you are in here," Thomas said, looking distantly at
the floor.
"In a way it is such a minor thing," Nick said
nonchalantly. "Rules are meant to be broken."
Thomas corrected him in disbelief of his attitude.
"Don't try and justify it. It will make you come across
arrogant," he said. "A lot of people out there are
feeling very hurt. They feel guilty that they were party to
this. And it doesn't feel nice."
Nick spoke of his fears that if he chooses to stay in the
house, next week he will be on the eviction list for sure.
Thomas agreed.
"What I suggest you do now is go and wash your face, get
yourself tided up, perhaps get an hours sleep," Thomas
advised before leaving.
"I won't be able to sleep, Tom," Nick said as
Thomas walked out the door.

Mother Mel
|
|
As Nick laid hiding under his duvet sobbing like baby, it was
Mel who took a motherly role and came to his aid.
Instantly acting as mediator of the group, Mel joined Nick in
the bedroom and quietly asked him what he was going to do. Nick
responded with a feeble sniff from under the duvet saying:
"I have to discuss it with the group."
Trying to give him an indication of the group's reactions,
Mel said: "There are mixed feelings out there. I think it
is fair to say that if you stay you will be nominated next
week." She had earlier comforted Nick putting her arm
around him, telling him not to leave because it would be hell
out in the real world.
Yet as he emerged from under his duvet, his first words were
malicious. "I think Craig is a hypocrite though," he
said. As if on cue, Craig walked into the bedroom and kindly
handed Nick a cup of tea.
Mel ignored his comments and went on to say: "I think
you need to see how everyone feels and what everyone thinks
about you, it will be alright." Looking up at her with
tears in his eyes, Nick said: "OK, I will come out."
Satisfied that her motherly work was done, Mel left Nick to
collect his thoughts and returned to the group. "This is
awful," she told the others, "I just want to go home
now. They will rip him to pieces when he goes out there."

Nick
Betrayed Everyone's Trust
|
|
Craig has used his words sparingly since the group discovered en
masse that Nick has manipulated the household's nomination
votes.
He has always listened intently to Nick's past words and news
of the evictee's 'visions' he claims to have had concerning the
group, perhaps with intent to influence nominations further.
"Nick's betrayed the trust in everyone," a shaken
Craig told Nichola in the garden earlier. Craig first discovered
that Nick was influencing voting in a conversation with the
group in the early hours of Thursday morning and it took him
time before he knew how to react.
Minutes before Nick was evicted by Big Brother, Craig spoke
his mind: "I'm bubbling inside," he said. "I have
a problem trusting people and it's because of people like you
pulling stunts. I work through it then you knock me back
down."
"I can't understand this Nicholas," Craig
continued. "I thought you were more intelligent. This is a
turning curve in your life. Look at yourself."
According to Craig, Nick's perception of Big Brother being
'only a gameshow' was warping reality. Manipulating votes was
dictating the direction of people's lives.
"He was fucking people from every angle," Craig
concluded as Nick was chaperoned off the Big Brother site.

'You
Made Me Look Stupid, Nick'
|
|
Craig has accused Nick of making him look like a sucker in front
of the whole nation.
During the heated house discussion, Craig had no problem
expressing his disappointment in Nick's behaviour.
"No-one want's to make a fool out of themselves
right?" he began. "I've gone into the box [The Diary
Room] a couple of weeks ago. I actually said to them in there,
not only to them but five million people mate, my family and
friends, I think you're a genuine guy and I would like to spend
the rest of the duration with you. You're a good lad."
Never a one to mince his words, he continued, "I feel a
cunt. I feel you're responsible for making me feel a cunt in
front of millions."
Characteristically, he added a joke: "If I'd known you
were this organised Nick I'd have given you a job in my
office!"

Anna
Tried to Understand Nick
|
|
After the fury and the rising tempers had calmed down after
today's explosive house meeting, Anna and Nick had a quiet chat in
the lounge.
"Deep down I really thought you liked me," she said
passively, "but you don't. You don't like some people, I
don't like some people, but you took it a step further. You gave
them the impression you really liked them. The flatterer."
Totally gutted by his deceit, she asked him why he thought
people were so upset. "I think people are shocked at the idea
of the competition. This isn't a picnic. I've been caught but
others remain guilty - they are not whiter than white."
Even having been caught red-handed Nick just couldn't help
himself. "I think you out of all people are the most
understanding..." he began, but Anna stopped him in mid
sentence well aware of the game he was playing.
"Don't start that," she said firmly, not wanting to
listen to anymore of his lies.

Nick's
Weird Behaviour
|
| Last night, Anna, Mel and Nichola discussed his
recent strange behaviour and sordid tactics.
"He has names in his suitcase!" said Anna
incredulously.
"Yeah, he's weird. He gives me the heeby jeebies,"
agreed Nichola.
"It's the lies and deceit which is so unpleasant -
that's why I have been so miserable," said Mel.
"They have let in a psychopath!" said Anna.
The three girls began to realise the true depth of his lies
and how he had spoken to them all individually about the
nominations. "This is turning into such a twisted little
thing. I want to go home right now," said Anna who felt
completely let down by her so-called friend Nick.
Trying to fathom out Nick's motivations for corrupting the
system, they retired to their beds hoping to get some rest
before the house meeting in the morning...

Nikkis Anger
|
|
Eviction nominee Nichola struggled to contain her anger, as the
truth behind Nick's scheming was revealed.
While the cheat packed his bags, Nichola told the duped group:
"I'm going to see Big Brother and say that our nomination was
not fair this week."
Fellow nominee Craig said: "I was glad I didn't lower
myself to Nick's level to punch him."
Nichola also suggested a motive for Nick's actions: "Maybe
that's why he did it - for any publicity."
And with thoughts quickly returning to tomorrow's eviction she
added: "As long as there are re-nominations, and if I go he
goes too, I will be happy."
Shortly after, sitting on Craig's knee for comfort, the angered
nominee pondered Nick's outing: "It's harder being in here
but it's easier to take him away from the group."
During a heart-to-heart in the diary room, Nichola said:
"I'm angry at the way he went about it. I feel sorry for him
and that it went to these extremes."
And although Nichola entered the diary room with a heavy heart
an understanding Big Brother made sure she left with a heavy
handful.
With the hint of a smile on her concerned face she carried the
gifts to her housemates saying: "Hello fatties. Choccy fudge
cake and wine."
Temporary relief from a tempestuous day.

No
Sympathy From Darren
|
|
Of all
the people in the house, Darren was the angriest at Nick's
scheming ways. He just couldn't believe Nick had been writing
names with a pencil in order to sabotage the game.
Earlier Darren had attempted to write a message to the mother
of his children with an eyeliner but Big Brother intervened and
confiscated the note, so he just couldn't believe Nick had got
away with it for so long, he said: "It's fucking sick, you
make me sick. It's not just in front of us, it's in front of
millions."
Later when Nick was hiding in his room Darren paid him a visit.
He stormed in and said, "You might as well just pack your
stuff and go. I'm hurt that you had a pencil to write with when I
needed to write to the mother of my kids because they didn't have
enough money because I was in here."
Nick turned on the waterworks and went for the sympathy vote.
As the tears flowed Darren just shouted: "I'm not buying your
sob story, it's my turn to manipulate now and I say you should
just pack your stuff and go."
Realising his tears wouldn't win Darren over, Nick said:
"You are selfish anyway, I don't care what you think."
Darren walked over to challenge Nick but the all-seeing eyes
intervened and Big Brother called Darren into the diary room.
Saved by the bell, aye boys.

Darren's
Anger at the Writing Denied Him
|
|
Darren
reacted angrily to news that Nick had access to a pencil.
The father of three had been desperate for writing materials to
contact the mother of his children. With hatred in his eyes he
told Nick:
"You know what I'm upset about?" he asked the group.
"I needed to write a message to my children's mother because
she hasn't got money, because I never left her enough. I never
expected to be here this long. I expected to be here for a week or
two weeks.
As Nick sat in silence, unable to look him in the eye, Darren
continued:
"I needed to write a message down to give to Caroline to
give to my children's mum. I was told I couldn't use eyeliner to
do that.
Getting angrier by the second he rose his voice and yelled:
"Where the hell did you get something to write someone's
name!"
All Nick could muster was a pitiful. "I've done something
wrong, you know erm..." he said, before trailing off lost for
words.
It is likely that Nick used a pencil provided for the cycling
task in week three. There was one missing when equipment provided
for the task was returned. All members of the house, including
Nick, denied knowledge of the absent pencil
