17:00PM Thursday IT
LEAVETH THE HOUSE. Nick evicted for
cheating ! About bloody time ! Credit :
Big Brother is a Bazal production for Channel 4.
Nick has been disqualified, and the final evidence that led to
his eviction, at 5pm on Thursday, was revealed for the entire
house to see during a meeting at midday.
It was called in the early hours of the morning after Craig,
Darren and Tom compared Nick stories. The penny dropped - Nicholarse
had been lying to them and manipulating them all along.
After weeks of strategic planning he was asked to account for
his tactics. Craig cut to the quick. In a tone of utmost
diplomacy, he said, "I've got a very important thing I want
to bring up, I think everyone should be aware of, and it's
everyone's concern. Basically, I'm sorry I've got to say it Nick
but I'm very disappointed in you."
He calmly continued: "I'm positive and I've got evidence
that you're plotting a very dirty plan on every body in here to
vote against each other to divert from you."
Initially confident Nick responded: "I think that's
absurd Craig."
But Craig was not to be swayed as he started to present his
case for the prosecution. "There's a number of people
sitting around this table who have come to me," he began,
"and basically said that you have shown them a piece of
paper with various names on it on a number of occasions."
Craig felt like he'd been stabbed in the back, especially
considering that Nick had suggested hooking up with Craig after
the show to visit Tom in Ireland. "What disappoints me the
most, Nick, is how can you be so two-faced," he said.
Wounded Craig asked, "Please explain to me, what's your
game? What are you playing at, what's you motive?"
Visibly squirming, Nick evaded the question and denied the
accusations. He also, rather lamely, suggested that everyone has
been guilty of tactical voting. But the nail was hammered into
the coffin of his defence when Mel and Tom backed up Craig's
accusations.
Both admitted that Nick had also shown them names in an
attempt to influence their nomination vote.
As temperatures rose everyone started to talk at once. It was
Anna who took control of the situation by requesting: "One
person at a time please."
By this time Nick knew his goose had been well and truly
cooked and admitted that he passed the notes around. Anna then
took the probing one step further.
"So have you given these names before nominations or
after nomination?" she asked.
"Well erm, before," he stuttered.
"Why? Why did you show the names?" she persisted.
"It was just a vision, " he said simply. But as he
continued Anna cut him off asking, "Why did you chose the
people that you chose?"
Nick replied, "Some people may take it the wrong way and
some people may take it the right way."
Mel moved the subject on to Nick's 'vision'. "It seems
to me that it's not really a vision because you're showing
different people different names," she suggested. Nick
vehemently disagreed protesting he'd always used the same names.
Just for confirmation, Darren asked, "So you show the
same two names?"
"Yeah," Nick said.
The house remained unconvinced and what started as a
businesslike meeting started to become more gut-led and knee
jerk. "I find it fucking disappointing," Tom said.
"I find it very disturbing," Anna added.
Feeling he'd been taken for a sucker, Craig had no problem
mincing his words when he told Nick, "I feel a cunt, in all
honesty."
Darren described Nick's actions as "fucking sick."
Sure that his name was on one of the scraps of paper Craig
asked, "Will you go and get the pieces of paper?"
"No I'll not do that," Nick insisted with a shrug.
"I'll pack my suitcase, simple as that."
Darren finally said, "I'm going to get the names
now." He walked to the boys' bedroom and returned with
Nick's suitcase. The scraps of paper were found and the damning
evidence was conclusive. Darren found three pieces of paper,
each had two names written on them.
They were: Caroline and Mel, Caroline and Nicky, and Craig
and Nicky.
At this point Mel had seen enough, "we can stop
now," she said.
Nichola agreed adding: "Leave it to Big Brother to sort
out."
Channel 4 and the producers of the hit gameshow, Big Brother,
have today disqualified Nicholas Bateman from any further
participation in the programme.
Nick was evicted at 5pm today for persistent infringement of
the Big Brother rules, after it came to light that he had yet
again been attempting to manipulate the show’s nomination
process.
He was discovered to have been writing notes and showing them
to fellow contestants in an attempt to influence their voting
intentions. The rules of Big Brother expressly forbid
contestants from talking about nominations and tactical voting.
The decision was taken after a day of high-drama in the Big
Brother house, when his fellow contestants confronted Nick about
his attempts to influence the votes of others.
Nick’s double-dealing finally came to light during a
discussion in the early hours of this morning between the
housemates. His colleagues subsequently searched Nick’s
belongings and discovered the notes with which Nick had been
attempting to sway his companions voting intentions.
Having earlier issued both a verbal and a written warning to
Nick and all other contestants making it clear that they faced
eviction if they continued to contravene the rules against vote-
rigging, it was decided that Nick’s continued presence in the
house was no longer tenable.
More news to follow in a couple of hours...
Where
Did He Go Wrong?
Weighed
In The Balance and Found Wanting
Until
Wednesday night Nicolas Bateman was the most popular person in
the Big Brother house. As the only person to have escaped a
single nomination vote he was sitting pretty.
The British public may have been baying for his blood but it
looked increasingly likely that he'd escape eviction and survive
until the last week.
In five weeks the population has seen him lie, manipulate,
cajole and con his way into their affections. There is no doubt
that he was playing a dangerous game but it worked, for a while
at least. How the tables have turned. His house mates are now
wise to his conniving ways and his tactics have blown up in his
face. But how did he manage to hold the wool over the eyes of
the other members for so long?
- He was consistent with different people
- He was aware of who people think they are
- He had conversations one-to-one
- He won people's trust
Dr Linda Papadopoulos, counselling psychologist, had a few
theories on how Nick managed to escape detection for so long:
"He tried to find out where people were coming from and
then build on that. People love talking about themselves. It's a
control thing. The more you let someone talk about themselves
the more you know about them."
The consequence of this strategy, for Dr Linda, is that:
"He realised who everyone wanted to be and he allowed
them to be just that person when he was with them. He played
them."
To back-up her theory she pointed out Nick's confession to
Mel that he'd lied about he's secret wife dying in Australia:
"It was as if was saying 'you know what, I'm telling you
this because you're smart', she likes to see herself as smart,
so he let her in on it and verified her opinion of herself. He
also played an important mind game. He was almost saying 'you
can trust me. Once I tell a lie I've got to tell someone I've
told a lie and it's you that I've told because you're smart and
I trust you.'"
He also conducted his conversations in intimate surroundings.
In a group it is much easier to show yourself up, she said.
Another reason for Nick's temporary success was that, unlike
the other house members, he was consistent:
"Nichola, who probably has a much better heart than him,
is inconsistent."
Alluding to Nichola's tearful altercation with Darren last
Friday, Dr Linda continued:
"She screamed at Darren but she really likes him. He
never did that kind of thing. He was much more in control of
what he did. This consistency made people see him as reliable
and dependable - someone who wouldn't change. Everyone else is
variable. He was their constant."
It is important to remember that there was always a major
flaw to Nick's scheming. Ultimately it is you, the viewing and
voting, public who decide who wins the £70,000 prize money. It
may once have looked like Nick would make it to the last three.
But it was doubtful that he'd ever win over the nation's heart.
Now he won't get the chance.
