Jules gets quoted on UK BBC Online ...
The latest big launch, Beme.com, which is run by magazine publisher IPC, appears to have grander intentions. It bills itself as an "information life source" for "universal modern women". Media director at IPC, Hilary Burden, calls it "a beautiful place to be" as well as being easy to navigate. But that sort of talk is demeaning to women, according to Jules, creator of the independent women's site PlanetGrrl. "Most 'women's sites' in the UK seem to be under the
misconception that women find the web very difficult to navigate. Our experience is this is clearly not the case," she says. She added that most women's sites were "boring, patronising and stereotypical". 626947.stm

PlanetGrrl was featured in The Sunday Times.
Sally Kinnes, the writer of the article said: .... and the more youthful PlanetGrrl, which is not as aggressive as it sounds. Established last year, it says the name was chosen "because it was one of the few grrl domains not taken by a porn site or the chickclick gals. It means nuthin' ". Contributors include Mel, who styles herself a "loud, boozy, buxom wench" and sounds like the sort of problem teenager the middle-of-the-road Handbag.com would run features on.
PlanetGrrl Sam and Jules say ' how sad it makes us feel that women cannot support each other on the web, that diversity is not supported and NOWHERE on PG does it purport to be aggressive'. We direct you to our manifesto.

One site leading the way is PlanetGrrl at www.planetgrrl.com, set up last year in response to the lack of UK sites for or by women and girls. Its philosophy is to promote individuality and freedom of expression through new media. User feedback shows it attracts a slightly older audience than similar US sites. Content ranges from a beginner's guide to the internet to animal welfare, clubbing and employment.
PlanetGrrl has yet to explore commercial opportunities, but site editor Jules believes the potential for women's sites is huge: "The number of women online in the UK has increased greatly within the last couple of years especially. Many women are trying the internet for the first time as a leisure tool, and are fast becoming addicted."
