Duke University prosthetic specialist
Jane Bahor has found that Barbies legs make perfect fingers for folks who have lost their
own.
The knee joints of the modern Barbie move very much like the metacarpal join of the
finger (thats the knuckle for the rest of us).
Bendy Barbie legs are placed inside a flesh-coloured silicone glove, which is then
attached to the patient. Folks bend the 'fingers' by using an attached 'pull-chord' which
allows them to use a pencil or hold a coffee. Some nice people at Mattel kindly donated
lots of Barbie legs for further use.
