Well done to everyone shooting in
the Senior inter Counties shoot in Hampshire. A little overcast to start, then
blazing sun, cloud and boy was that wind gusty and tricky? At lease it stayed
dry all day. Special thanks to those that were asked to fill in last minute and
well done to those that had a rotten weekend and build up to the day but still
shot and finished the day with a smile. Some real personal achievements there.
Everyone did themselves proud under the conditions and it was great to see some
good results. Talking of which, We came 4th in both the Recurve and the Compound
and came 3rd overall with the combined scores (however nothing was awarded for
the combined scores) Great achievement and great shooting by everyone
However well done to Grant Morris-Soper (Compound – Rivernook Bowmen) for
achieving his 3rd MB score, well done to Simon Buchanan and Richard White (Both
Recurve form Chessington Bowmen) for shooting Seasons bests, well done to Martin
Creasey for shooting well over his PB and big Congratulations to Louise
Coleville who was awarded a “whopping” trophy for highest Recurve score on the
day.
Really well done to everyone, and watch this page for news of the reciprocal
friendly with Kent next year. I have also talked to various Team Managers
concerning 2 and 3 way inter County friendlies. Any news then I will update the
website accordingly.

Junior Intercounties 15th August 2010
Dear team,
I would like to thank-you all for attending the shoot on the 15th August and to
say well done, I think you all did extremely well considering the very windy
conditions on the day.
Please keep an eye on the Surrey web page as we are hoping to hold an indoor
friendly with Kent in November or December.
Regards
Robert Gascoigne

Surrey v Kent Inter-County Friendly

Surrey v
Kent – Seniors
What a fantastic showing at the Kent vs Surrey Inter County friendly on Sunday
1st August. After an adjustment of the scores for the Juniors, Kent beat Surrey
3-2. I think, however, we can all be very proud of the determination, good
humour, professional attitude and downright great sportsmanship the Surrey team
all showed. I was nervous as this was a first for me as team Manager but I was
very proud at how everyone all rallied round, made my job quite easy on the day
and everyone supported each other throughout the shoot. It was a real pleasure
and was noted by many people. The weather was good, a bit of a downpour for a
few minutes in the morning, but a great day none the less. There was a paying
BBQ for lunch and the bar was open for refreshments and tea and coffee.
I am not aware of everyone’s achievements on the day, but those brought to my
attention were fantastic. It was a shame that it wasn’t record status as there
were some great scores that could have been used. However we are already
organising a reciprocal for next year and we are planning a record status.
Justin Phillips (Reigate Priory - Compound) shot a GMB score, amazing shooting
and constant standard from him so all the best for his next few comps. Well done
to Jane Lawrence-Tuck (Rivernook - Compound) for shooting just under an MB score
and with a good PB of over 25 points. Lee Beresford (Rivernook - Recurve) put in
a huge PB of over 86 points and his 2nd Bowman score. Mike Hayward (Guildford -
Recurve) put in a whopping score of 1021 and again a PB. Sabina Browne (Royal
Richmond - Longbow) put in her 1st Bowman score and as 80 yds is not her forte,
she did really well. Steve Patterson (Royal Richmond – Longbow) hadn’t shot many
York’s but came away with a PB and a Bowman score. Finally many congratulations
to Karen Tippins (CMO - Barebow) who put in a Ladies County Record.
For many of the team, this was their first selection, and I genuinely hope that
it will take off from here and we'll shoot together again. It has been my
privilege to be amongst you and to shoot alongside you.
Many thanks to James Taylor for deputising for me on the day and thanks to Jane
Lawrence-Tuck for helping out with all in sundry.
Excellent shooting everyone.
