County of Surrey Archery Association

Spring Longbow Championships
held on Saturday 4th May 2002

Our first two-day Western of the year was held on the grounds of Woking Archery Club, and although the day remained dry, we suffered a vicious northerly wing rolling over the motorway embankment which made shooting somewhat difficult, and is reflected in may of the scores.

We offer our thanks to all those members of Woking Archery Club who made the day possible, acting as field party, but especially to Lawrence Braithwaite, assisted by Colin Madelin, for supervising field layout, again to Lawrence for acting as Field Captain, to Andrea Gales, Lynn Stephenson and Paula Butcher in the kitchen, to Penny Buttenshaw and Judy Friedlanger for helping with the scoring, to Judy Friedlanger for serving the sherry (Although we suspect she had plenty of help). Colin Madelin also ran our informal speed shoot at the end, which helped some archers to pass the time pleasantly while waiting for the results. Judy Friedlanger was also our Lady Paramount for the day.

As most of you know we have to cap entries at 90, as we cannot accommodate any more archers of targets on our field. This year the shoot was full by the beginning or March and more than 25 hopeful archers had to be refused. There were unfortunately a number of no shows on the day.

Out second County Longbow Shoot of the season will be held on Saturday 7th September (Entry form on County of Surrey Site under Tournament Diary), again staring at 1pm. We look forward to welcoming you all again.
