‘Come and join us’

Paul Thorpe winner of the Charlie Holdsworth Memorial Trophy receives the cup from  Charlie’s widow Edna and son Brian

The Walnut Tree Bowling Club was formed in 1929, and have been very much involved with the local community since that time.

We are affiliated to the governing body, the British Crown Green Bowling Association who look after our rules and the day to day running of the game.

Our local County is Merseyside County Bowling Association

The Walnut Tree are pleased to accept any members into our club from the ages of 10 –80 yrs and of course everybody including ladies are made very welcome !!

We actively encourage younger members of all ages to the club and in the past we have had a number of  junior county players within our club. The younger members are the future of crown green bowling !!

The Walnut Tree is probably most famous for its major tournaments that where held at the Walnut in the mid 1980s until early 1990s. At one time the tournament had a 1st prize of £1,600 and a total payout of £6,500 at its height. Our friends over at the Northern Club, Crosby now hold one of the biggest in the area with the ‘Northern Classic’ which includes some of the biggest names in the bowling world.

We have some old programmes and information about the Tetley tournament on show on our Pictures page
