Dr. Sharon Orton-Gibbs
BDS, FDS, D.Orth, M.Orth, MSc
GDC Registration Number 58428
Qualified in dentistry from Bristol University, with Honours, in 1983. She then studied orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London. The practice was established in 1968, by her father Harry Orton, who was awarded an OBE for services to orthodontics.
Sharon joined this first class practice in 1987 and took over as principal in 1995. She has continued to be first – or amongst the first – in the UK, in introducing several technologies to the practice and has a focus for providing top quality care. She has presented original research at the British, European and American Orthodontic Conferences, as well as lecturing in Barcelona twice, Chicago and more locally in the UK. She has publications in the British, European and American Journals. Continuing education is a passion and she was therefore honoured to be invited to be chairperson of the Kingston Branch, British Dental Association 2007-2008. |

| Until June 2007, Sharon was a part-time Consultant at St Helier Hospital, Carshalton where she was lead clinician for 6 years and was responsible for training post-graduates. In a national audit of six consecutively treated patients by consultant orthodontists her scores were amongst the highest in the UK. Her work, at St Helier, was recognised with the award of 8 clinical excellence points despite the part time nature of her job. Sharon now focuses all her time on the practice.
She is also a member of the British, European and American Societies for the Study of Orthodontics and the World Federation of Orthodontists.
Sharon is married with a daughter and son aged 15 and 17 years. Sharon’s hobbies are skiing, cycling, regional music and supporting her kids in their sports – skiing and fencing. Practice days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, monthly Saturday morning. |
Sharon is a caring orthodontist. She was both thoughtful and responsible throughout my treatment… The rest of the staff were also great, and I never felt like 'just a patient.' The practice is a nice little community in itself.

Dr. David Slattery
BDS, FDS, D.Orth, M.Orth, MSc
GDC Registration Number 52537
Joined the practice in 1995. He combines his practice work with Consultant posts at Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot, and King Edward VII Hospital, Windsor.
David qualified in dentistry from Manchester University in 1978 and went on to study orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London.
He has presented original research at the British Orthodontic Conference and has publications in the British and European Orthodontic Journals.
In 2002, he was invited to be a regional advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons, England.
He is a member of the British and American Orthodontic Societies and the World Federation of Orthodontists. David is married with four children.
Practice days: Friday and Saturday.

Chris (Financial Coordinator & Practice Manager)
Joined the Walpole team in May 2001, after a drama degree and 18 year career in journalism and IT, sales, and events. Chris helps manage the Walpole Systems and in his spare time is a keen follower of AFC Wimbledon. He also enjoys snowboarding.
Linda (Lead chairside assistant & receptionist)
Has been a dental nurse for thirty years and the last nine years have been at Walpole Specialists. Her son (17) and daughter (21) both have beautiful smiles thanks to orthodontics from Sharon. Apart from being a working mum Linda has two 3-year-old German Shepherd dogs who between them take care of her leisure time.
Nina (Receptionist & chairside assistant)
Has worked as an orthodontic nurse and receptionist for over 6 years with over half that time as part of the Walpole team. She also enjoys running a busy livery yard with her mother-in-law and is looking forward to the arrival of her first child. Nina is also trained in massage and Aromatherapy.
Jade (Chairside assistant and hygienist)
Our Australian-trained dental nurse and hygienist has lived in the UK for four years and has been a Walpole team member for one year. She is an outdoors, travelling type, enjoying all sorts of sports, particularly those that can be done under the sun.
Anna (PA to Chris and Sharon & Practice secretary/administrator)
In her spare time Anna is an American Classic Car enthusiast, a keen cyclist and a devoted fan of alternative medicine.
Margaret (Practice Secretary)
Joined the practice in 1988 working for Harry Orton OBE (Sharon’s father), since when she has seen the practice grow and change considerably. Margaret is married with two grown up children and enjoys cooking, creative hobbies and travel.
