Wilkinson Sword of Peace
The Minister of State for the Armed Forces, Adam Ingram, announced on 13 August 2001 the winners of the Wilkinson Sword of Peace for 2000. Messrs Wilkinson Sword Limited each year sponsors the awards to the unit of each of the three Services which is judged to have made the most valuable contribution towards establishing good and friendly relations with any community at home or overseas.
For the year 2000, the Royal Navy Sword of Peace goes to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Fort George. With the Sea King helicopters of 820 Naval Air Squadron embarked, the ship provided valuable humanitarian assistance following the devastating floods in Mozambique in March 2000.
