HMS Kent in Rescue

The Type 23 Frigate HMS Kent (F78) was called to the assistance of a small motor boat on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 13th.

The skipper of the 23ft motor boat `Wassini' alerted Coastguard Officers at Milford Haven that his vessel was taking on water rapidly, a mile off Skomer Island. Milford Haven Coastguard immediately requested that the Angle lifeboat be launched and a mayday relay was also broadcast, and HMS Kent and another vessel responded to this call.

Upon arrival at the scene, Kent deployed two of her rigid inflatable boats (ribs) to assist. The crew aboard the warship began to pump the `Wassini' out and once the lifeboats arrived on scene control of the situation was handed to them.

Mark Harrington, Watch Manager, at Milford Haven Coastguard said: "We were very grateful to the crews of all the vessels who responded to our call and particularly to the Royal Navy who helped to secure this vessel."
