Further Type 45 Orders

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has today confirmed an order for a further three Type 45 Destroyers with BAE Systems Electronics, the Prime Contractor.

The additional three Type 45 Destroyers ordered today will be called Dragon, Defender and Duncan. The name of Dragon can be traced back 1,000 years to a longship that was the flagship of one of the first kings of England, King Sven Forkbeard.

The MoD contracted with Type 45 prime contractor BAE Systems for an initial three Type 45 Destroyers in December 2000. The first three ships of the class are to be named Daring, Diamond and Dauntless.
