Coventry Ends Final Voyage
Type 22 Frigate HMS Coventry arrived home to Devonport today following the end of her last ever deployment as a Royal Navy warship.
Despite spending only thirteen years in active service Coventry will decommission in February. She is now the responsibility of the Disposal Services Agency (DSA), who hope to sell her abroad for further service as a warship.
Coventry was ordered to replace a destroyer of the same name lost in the Falklands War of 1982. She was launched in 1986 and commissioned in 1986.
Her final voyage saw her travel 24,500 miles and visit 17 ports. However, the highlight of her deployment was the seizure £40 million worth of cocaine following a dramatic operation in the Caribbean [story].
