Campbeltown Grounded

Type 22 Frigate HMS Campbeltown (F86) ran aground in Norway today.

HMS Campbeltown had been visiting the Russian ports of Archangel and Murmansk to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the start of the Arctic Convoys. She was returning southward along the Norwegian coast when she grounded in the Strait of Rystraumen, near Tromsoe.

After a short while she was pulled back into deeper water and towed to Tromsoe for inspection.

This embarrassing incident is the second in less than a year. Last September, the Type 23 Frigate HMS Grafton (F80) ran aground in the Droebak narrows, just outside Oslo.
