Joint Maritime Course
Between the 18th and 28th of June, forty-six ships, five submarines, 1400 marines and more than 100 aircraft are to participate in Joint Maritime Course 01-2 (JMC 01-2) . The exercise will take place in the North Sea, near the Hebrides Islands, as well as land and airspace around Scotland.
The Joint Maritime Course (JMC) will involve naval forces from thirteen NATO nations and Partners for Peace countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Canada, the United Kingdom and United States of America.
Ships from the U.S. Navy Enterprise Battle Group are to participate in the event. In addition to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65), the US Navy participants will include the cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), the nuclear submarine USS Hampton (SSN 767), the destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) and the multi-product replenishment ship USS Arctic (AOE 8).
The Joint Maritime Course is a Royal Navy exercise designed to train navies to operate in a joint service environment. The exercise is coordinated by the Joint Maritime Operational Training Staff (JMOTS) based in Northwood, near London, under the direction of the (UK) Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) and his Royal Air Force counterpart.
