Cruisers
In the immediate years after the end of the Second World War, construction of light fleet 'carriers took priority over that of new cruisers and so Second World War era vessels continued in service in the 1940s and 1950s. In the early 1960s the three Tiger Class vessels were finally completed., but despite an impressive gun armament, they lacked modern guided missiles. The last cruiser in Royal Naval service, HMS Blake, decommissioned in 1979.
