Eddy Class Coastal Tankers (AO(H))

A class of eight single screw vessels built for the Naval Stores Department of the Admiralty. Two further units, Eddycove (A205) and Eddymull (A287), were cancelled in 1953. Displacing 4,160 tons (fully loaded) they measured 87 metres in length, 13 metres in breadth with a draught of 5.2 metres. They had a cargo capacity of 1,650 tons and a speed of 12 knots.

Developments in Replenishment At Sea (RAS) techniques soon made these vessels obsolete, hence they had relatively short careers. Eddybeach, Eddycliff, Eddycreek and Eddyreef were withdrawn from service between 1963 and 1964, Eddyrock in 1967, Eddyness in 1970 and finally Eddyfrith left the fleet in 1981.
