RFA Olna - Fast Fleet Tanker
Originally constructed for Shell as a tanker named Hyalina but purchased by the Admiralty upon completion. In 1945 she was commissioned into the Royal Navy and renamed HMS Olna. However the following year she transferred to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. During her service she undertook various trials and experiments into Replenishment-at-Sea (RAS) and in this respect was the forerunner of the Tide and Ol Class. She was sold for scrapping in 1966.
Olna displaced 17,500 tons and measured 218ft in length, 39ft in breadth and 15ft in draught. She had electric propulsion and could travel at 17 knots. She had armoured fuel tanks and was fitted with one 4 inch anti-aircraft gun, four 40mm anti-aircraft guns and eight 20 mm anti-aircraft guns.
