King Salvor Class Salvage Vessels
Displacing 1,780 tons these salvage vessels measured 217ft in length, 37ft in beam with a 13ft draught.
Powered by Reciprocating steam engines, with two shafts, they had a speed of 12 knots. During the 1940s these vessels were manned by the Royal Navy and later by the Port Auxiliary Service. They had a complement of between 52 and 72.
An additional unit, Salverdant, was completed as HMS Reclaim and served as a Deep Diving and Submarine Rescue Vessel.

| King Salvor | During the Second World War HMS King Salvor served in the Pacific and salvaged a number of wrecks from Hong Kong Harbour. Converted to a submarine rescue bell ship between 1953 and 1954 and renamed Kingfisher in April 1954. She was sold to Argentina in December 1960 and named Tehuelche. In 1963 she was renamed Guardiamarina Zicari . |
