Gleaner Class Inshore Survey Craft 

Entering service in 1983, Gleaner is based at Portsmouth and operates mainly on the South Coast surveying ports, coastlines and inland waters. Classified as a small motor launch, she carriers the prefix 'HMSML' - Her Majesty's Small Motor Launch. At the end of 1998 she was fitted with a multibeam sonar making her the most sophisticated vessel of her size in the whole of NATO.

Gleaner is undoubtedly the smallest vessel currently in service with the Royal Navy. She is 14 metres long with a beam of 4.5 metres and a displacement of 25 tonnes. She has a speed of 15 knots and a complement of seven- one officer and six ratings.
