About This Site

The Royal Navy Postwar aims to provide a wide-ranging and in-depth history of the Royal Navy from the end of the Second World War (1939-1945) to the present day. This will be presented through:

• A class-by-class guide to all British warships and auxiliaries since 1945.
• Detailed accounts of major historical and political events concerning and involving the Royal Navy. For example postwar conflicts and operations such as the Cold War and Falklands Conflict.
• The creation of an ‘oral history’ of personal experiences, recollections and memories.
• The creation of a visual record through the accumulation of photographs.

The Royal Navy Postwar was first created in August 1999 and is still under construction.

In order to be as comprehensive a source of information as possible, The Royal Navy Postwar welcomes:

• Contributions of photographs, regardless of the subject or the quality. Unusual, personal or unique photographs are of particular interest, although all submissions are appreciated and gratefully received. To give a few ideas, have a look at some of these examples: [Photo Example 1] [Photo Example 2]
• Personal accounts and recollections. Perhaps you served on some of the warships or in some of the conflicts mentioned on this site? If you have personal experiences regarding the Royal Navy or British warships and auxiliaries which you wish to share please get in touch. The format is up to you- you can write as little or as much as you wish and it doesn’t have to be extensive or detailed. To give a few ideas have a look at some of these examples:

Also you can help by providing feedback, input and advice should you:

• Notice problems with the website itself such as broken links, pictures failing to load etc.
• Notice mistakes or incorrect information, even spelling errors.
• Wish to expand on any information or provide further details on a topic.
• Wish to exchange links.

The Royal Navy Postwar welcomes all correspondence by email. However the following should be noted:

• Regrettably, The Royal Navy Postwar cannot provide information such as service records or career details, regarding individuals who have served in the Royal Navy .
• The Royal Navy Postwar is also unable to assist in the location of old shipmates.
• The Royal Navy Postwar would prefer if all requests for information on ships, battles etc. would be posted on the message board rather than emailed to the webmaster. This way other visitors to the site may also be able to assist you.
