Saturday 3rd August 02
Kick-Off 1:30pm at Meadowcroft
Racing Club Royals v Weavers

This game was the first of the new season for both clubs and obviously both teams started off very cautiously. An end to end first half saw both teams squander many chances when on 44 mins Weavers conceded a very harsh decision for a penalty, which Racing Club Royals duly put past the Weavers keeper. 1 - 0

The second half was a totally different game. With some encouraging words during the break Weavers came out with an equalizer inside 10 mins from Lee Turney. With the ball being passed very well around the Weavers players Kirston Edworthy added his first for the club and Weavers second. 1 - 2

Racing Club Royals fought well but from what looked like a tricky situation in the Weavers goal mouth the ball was put wide on the left for Bryan Lambourne to link up with Matty Dennis who sneaked the ball past the diving keeper to make it 1 - 3

With both teams using roll on, roll off subs it was Adam Trenter who came off the bench to make a darting run down the right side who whipped the ball across for a powerful finish from Kirston Edworthy, his second of the game and Weavers fourth.

Result - Racing Club Royals 1
  Weavers 4 (Turney, Dennis, K. Edworthy 2)

Saturday 10th August 02
Kick-Off 2:30pm at Bierton
Bierton XI v Weavers

With Weavers trying out many new players and Bierton having a very experienced squad this game was one Weavers will try and forget quickly.

Bierton struck first within 10 mins beating the offside trap, only for Weavers to hit straight back with a deflected goal from Adam Trenter's fierce strike.

An unfortunate own goal from the Weavers captain made it 2-1 to Bierton.

Bierton then took control and with some good moves scored in quick succession to make the half time score 6-1.

Weavers composed themselves and came out a lot stronger in the second half and made a few chances, but to no avail.

Two goals late on secured a fine win for the Bierton side.

Result - Bierton XI 8
  Weavers 1 (Trenter)

Saturday 17th August 02
Kick-Off 2:00pm at Tring
Tring Corinthians XI v Weavers

Tring started the game more organised than Weavers and scored after 20mins. A goalmouth scramble ended in Tring scoring again just before the first of 2 breaks owing to the heat.

Weavers got a goal back thanks to a Lee Turney header 10 mins into the 2nd third. A defensive error saw Tring regain their two goal advantage only for Kirston Edworthy to power home a shot from inside the Tring area. Right on the whistle Tring again scored with a superb lob from the edge of the box.

The final third of the game saw all the action, Weavers pressed hard and within minutes Lee Turney again unlocked the Tring defence and shot low into the corner making it 4-3. A fine solo effort from Steve Beckett saw Weavers draw level with 10 mins left. Another goalmouth scramble ensued and resulted in Tring being awarded a penalty. The Weavers keeper Simon Munro made an outstanding save but failed to hold on to the ball and the Tring taker slotted in an easy goal. With some more changes in personnel, Weavers were hit on the final whistle with a tame goal to make the final score;

Result - Tring Corinthians XI 6
  Weavers 4 (Turney 2, K. Edworthy, Beckett)

Sunday 25th August 02
Kick-Off 12:00pm at Meadowcroft
E & E Scorpions v Weavers

This lunchtime game started with a minutes silence which was well appreciated by all.

From the off Weavers took total command of the park and with some fine triangles and off-the-ball movement. It wasn't long before Weavers broke the deadlock with a crisp strike from Kirston Edworthy.

The Weavers back four were working well together forcing E & E to be offside on numerous occasions.

A Scorpions corner resulted in a fine break with Roy Benham quickly feeding Matt Dennis on the left who rounded two players before slotting the ball to Lee Turney who fired home. 2 - 0

Weavers continued to push but with a few changes from the opposition the Weavers midfield were made to stand up to the stronger players coming through the middle.

Just before half time saw a shot from Tim Picot deflected into the Scorpions' own net for a 3 - 0 lead at the break.

Weavers made a few changes for the second half which saw Mikey Dell go close in the early stages.

The Scorpions pushed harder still and it paid off with a mix up along the defence to allow the striker through to slot past the keeper. 3 - 1

This was a bit of a wake up call to some of the Weavers players who responded well. Steve Beckett coolly dispossessing the striker and sending Adam Trenter down the left wing in what at first appeared to be a lost cause, Adam somehow managed to keep the ball in by the corner flag, take it round a flailing defender and send the ball into the far top corner of the Scorpions net. 4 - 1

With about 5 mins left Mark Bateman passed to Kirston Edworthy in the centre of the field, he turned and shot low into the bottom corner to finish the game.

Result - E & E Scorpions 1
  Weavers 5 (Turney, K. Edworthy 2, Trenter, o.g.)

Saturday 31st August 02
Kick-Off 2:30pm at Wingrave
Wingrave v Weavers

This was Weavers last pre-season game before the real thing and had 5 players out (getting their holidays in before the start).

It was a very warm day and both teams started in an attacking way end to end play saw few chances in the first half and it was 0-0 at the break.

The second half was just as entertaining with chances for both teams, the closest being a shot rebounding off the post from Wingrave.

Weavers were more than satisfied with end score of 0 - 0.

Result - Wingrave 0
  Weavers 0

The League

Saturday 7th September 02
Kick-Off 2:30pm at The Thame Rec
Cross Keys v Weavers

Weavers' first game of the season saw plenty of excitement as they were entertained by Cross Keys.

After 15 minutes of end-to-end play Cross Keys had a player sent off for elbowing a Weavers midfielder which allowed Weavers to take advantage of the extra man.

On 40 minutes Adam Trenter's wicked cross from the right was deflected in; 0 - 1 to Weavers.

After the break Weavers were slow to start and Cross Keys got the equalizer within 5 mins of the restart. 1 - 1

This was the beginning of the end for the Thame side as Weavers ran riot.

Within 5 minutes of Cross Keys equalizing, Kirston Edworthy christened his debut for Weavers with a superb long range effort; 1 - 2. A Weavers corner followed soon after, from which Lee Turney slotted home; 1 - 3. Relentless Weavers pressure saw Kirston Edworthy tap in his second and Weavers 4th from close range. Lee Turney made it 5 with a goal from a very tight angle; 1 - 5. Good work from Bryan Lambourne and Matty Dennis down the left resulted in Kirston Edworthy getting his hat trick; 1 - 6. With 5 minutes remaining and Weavers keeping the ball well, Mark Bateman scored after a wonderful solo run 1 - 7.

Result - Cross Keys 1
Weavers 7 (Edworthy 3, Turney 2, Bateman, OG)

Saturday 14th September 02
Kick-Off 2:30pm at Fairford Leys
Weavers v Aston Clinton Old Boys Reserves

These two teams met last year in the ADL League Cup Semi-Final with Aston Clinton 6 - 2 winners so Weavers were out for revenge.

Aston won the toss and opted to kick against the wind. Weavers started very well and although both teams were causing problems in the area it was Weavers who struck first on 35 mins with a cool strike from Tim Picot. 1 - 0.

The second half was full of neat football by Weavers who saw plenty of the ball. Within 10 mins Weavers had extended their lead thanks to a Lee Turney shot. 2 - 0. A goalmouth scramble in which 3 or 5 Weavers players had a stab at the ball saw Steve Beckett finally finish. 3 - 0.

The Weavers keeper Roy Benham produced some fine saves to keep the odd Aston Clinton threat at bay.

Some good work from debutant Dave Harvey and Kirston Edworthy enabled Bryan Lambourne to make it 4-0 after 70 mins.

Straight from the kick Aston scored within 2 or 3 touches of the ball to Weavers disbelief. 4 - 1. Weavers responded immediately by getting a corner in which Captain Rob Burkhill neatly picked out Steve Beckett to bang home the perfect header. 5 - 1.

With Adam Trenter coming on as sub, he caused no-end of trouble to the opposition down his left and after hitting the post Tim Picot floated a wonderful ball over the full back only for Adam Trenter to slam in a fantastic left foot volley. 6 - 1.

Result - Weavers 6 (Beckett 2, Turney, Lambourne, Picot, Trenter)

Saturday 21st September 02
Kick-Off 2:30pm at Fairford Leys
Weavers v Oving

Weavers started the better team although they were without some key players. Fine shots from Bryan Lambourne and Kirston Edworthy were inches away. It was Tim Picot however who broke the deadlock on 30 mins with a super strike to make the half time score 1 - 0.

Oving began the second half with a bit more urgency than Weavers but Weavers soon piled on some pressure and went close from a Damian Leggett shot.

With Weavers pushing for the second goal Oving hit on the break and scored. 1 - 1.
Again Weavers pressed and again went close through Bryan Lambourne and Tim Picot but the Oving keeper stopped well. An Oving corner ensued and some mis-understanding let in Oving for their second. 1 - 2.

Weavers had a lot of possession and were unlucky on numerous occasions but by pushing up enabled Oving to break again and score their third. 1 - 3.
Weavers first defeat of the season ... but how!!!

Result - Weavers 1 (Picot)
  Oving 3

Saturday 5th October 02
Kick-Off 2:30pm at Long Marston Park
Long Marston v Weavers

Weavers were without six regulars for this top of the table clash and knew it was always going to be hard.

Weavers fought well for the first 15 or 20 mins, but Marston's strength showed as they scored five in quick succession before the break. 5 - 0.

The second half was more even with Weavers changing their formation slightly. Good runs by Kirston Edworthy, Adam Trenter and Damian Leggett saw chances squandered and again some good stops by Roy Benham kept Marston at bay. As the game wore on, however, the home side scored two more; 7 - 0.

The last 15 mins saw Weavers dramatically come to life, and, after a powerful run, Mark Bateman slotted home Weavers' consolation. All in all, a day Weavers will forget quickly.

Result - Long Marston 7
  Weavers 1 (Bateman)

Saturday 26th October 02
Kick-Off 2:30pm at Bedgrove Park
Bedgrove Park 'A' v Weavers

The home team started the stronger and used the adverse weather conditions to their advantage kicking with the wind. The ball was pumped up and over the Weavers defence on many occasions but to no avail. It was on the 20 min mark when the Bedgrove forward seized the opportunity to strike from distance, catching the Weavers keeper unaware and with the wind's assistance scored. 1 - 0.

Weavers immediately set about getting the equalizer and some good work from Matt Dennis and Adam Trenter on the wings enabled a goalmouth scramble in the Bedgrove goal to result in a penalty being awarded to Weavers for handball. Steve Beckett stepped up to slot past the home keeper coolly. 1 - 1.

With the welcome return from a months holiday, Weavers made 2 changes at half time with Ian Wallace and Bryan Lambourne coming on for Adam Trenter (injury) and Matt Dennis. Ian Wallace's partnership at the back with Rob Burkhill was soon put to the test but Bedgrove were unable to make anything of the few chances they created. End to end play was much of the second half story until the last 10 mins. With some Weavers pressure, Mark Bateman somehow managed to score through a mêlée of Bedgrove players and get a fortunate ricochet from the keeper to make it two. 1 - 2.

From the centre kick, Bedgrove forced their way towards the Weavers penalty area were Rob Burkhill pulled off a crucial tackle to stop the attacker. The Bedgrove players swamped the referee shouting for a penalty but the referee rightly said 'no foul'. Bedgrove were down to 10 men shortly afterwards when one of their players got red carded for abusive language directed towards the referee.

Quick thinking by Antony Hall from the goal kick sent man of the match Kirston Edworthy away down the centre, and, after leaving the defenders standing, with only the keeper to beat chipped home from 18 yards. 1 - 3.
These two teams will meet again in a fortnights time in the Sheffield Jackman Cup R1.

Result - Bedgrove Park 'A' 1
Weavers 3 (Beckett (pen), Bateman, Edworthy)

Cup Competitions

Saturday 21st September 02
Kick-Off 2:30pm at Rickley Park
Royal British Legion (Bletchley) v Weavers
(Berks & Bucks Junior Cup Rd 1)

This Berks & Bucks tie was always going to be a hard game for Weavers but the game started off in promising fashion with Weavers putting a lot of pressure on the Bletchley side's goalmouth.

However, after 40 mins a dubious penalty was awarded to RBL as Weavers left back Dave Harvey was alleged to have handled in the box. The Weavers players argued that it was ball to hand rather than handball but the referee stood firm and RBL scored from the spot. 1 - 0. Within minutes Adam Trenter thought he had equalised but the goal was disallowed for offside.

The second half saw Weavers change their formation to 3-5-2 to try and alleviate the midfield possession of the home side.

Roy Benham, the Weavers keeper, made some outstanding saves to keep Weavers in with a shout, but with too many players playing out of position it was on 60mins that RBL pressed and got their second. 2 - 0.

Weavers fought well and Steve Beckett and Kirston Edworthy both had chances before RBL again on the break grabbed the third. 3 - 0

Result - Royal British Legion (Bletchley) 3
  Weavers 0

Cup Competitions

Saturday 12th October 02
Kick-Off 2:00pm at Fairford Leys
Weavers v Halifax (Aylesbury) Reserves
(A.D.L. League Cup Rd 1)

Weavers were going into this game having lost on their last 3 outings so a good start was asked for by the manager.
Lee Turney duly obliged within 15 mins a cool pass from Tim Picot set up Turney who fired home. 1 - 0

It was all Weavers pressure and some fine moves saw Halifax concede a corner on 20 mins. A set piece practised on training night was seen through as Rob Burkhill's precise kick was met by Lee Turney's powerful header. 2 - 0

Halifax tried to get into the Weavers' half in vain as the midfield quartet of Matt Dennis, Tim Picot, Mark Bateman, and Adam Trenter were easily dominating the middle area. Then, on 40 mins, a nice piece of footwork saw Tim Picot make himself some space and fire in a wicked left foot drive from the edge of Halifax's area. 3 - 0

The second half saw no let up from Weavers who started the stronger again. Some outstanding ball work from stand in centre back Steve Beckett and right back Antony Hall enabled Weavers to push forward and set up Man of the Match Lee Turney for his hat-trick. 4 - 0

Roy Benham, the Weavers keeper, had little to do all game and he made way for the No 2, Simon Munro, who came on only to save Halifax's ONLY shot at goal.

Kirston Edworthy's tormenting of the Halifax defence paved the way for a scorching shot from Mark Bateman to net Weavers' 5th. 5 - 0

Seconds later, a break down the left saw some great link up play between Lee Watkins and Matt Dennis to set up Adam Trenter for his 2nd of the season and Weavers 6th. 6 - 0

Weavers' domination of this game was even more apparent when runs from the two centre backs Rob Burkhill and Steve Beckett nearly resulted in goals.

Result - Weavers 6 (Turney 3, Bateman, Picot, Trenter)
  Halifax (Aylesbury) Reserves 0
