Evan has worked with watercolour and gouache for most of his professional life and the body of work produced is vast. His visual enjoyment of his surroundings are clear in the other works on this page. He has taken a lively interest in buildings and how they fit into the landscape. Many of these works are now residing in private collections in the UK and USA.

These original artworks are not available at present; though enquiries by email or phone are considered.

Greece (500px).jpg (17119 bytes)

‘The Greek islands, Crete’

Watercolour and pastel. 9¼" x 6½"

One of my favourite Greek islands is Crete., It is windy and rugged but the people are warm and friendly and the views are spectacular. My love of buildings in landscape is satisfied to the full in scenes like this. I cannot recall the exact location of the study but it typifies, for me, the heat and intense light of the buildings as they reflect the warmth of the sun.

They gently crumble but nobody cares too much.

Clee next the Sea (500px).jpg (14797 bytes)

‘Clee-next-the-sea, Norfolk’

Watercolour. I2¾"x 10"

Norfolk is a favourite county and this drawing of the famous windmill is just waiting to be recorded. I find the warm red of the pan tiles a great joy, and the texture of the reeds reflecting in the water encourages me to employ techniques I have used in previous works.

I often return to my favourite subjects as I have with this view.

Grisedale 1 (500px).jpg (17056 bytes)

’Grisedale, Yorkshire’

Watercolour and gouache. I2¼"x 9"

The many small groups of farm cottages crouching in the landscape have remained almost unchanged over the years,

Countryside of a particular character, this location is typical of so many impressions of the area which delight the artist.

Grisedale 2 (500px).jpg (14360 bytes)

’Grisedale, Yorkshire’

Watercolour and gouache. I2¼"x 8¾"

While the cottages and many stone walls remain in their place, the light is constantly changing and calls for a considerable degree of patience if the subject is to be recorded (as seen).

These farm buildings are, in the changing sunshine and shade dramatic and solid, and form the basis of what attracted me.

St Pauls (500px).jpg (12919 bytes)

’St. Pauls from the river’

Watercolour. 6¾"x 11¼"

A painting of light and colour featuring Christopher Wren’s great dome of St. Pauls which remains to dominate the London skyline.

The appeal is of the many buildings which, from my chosen viewpoint, appear to support the great Cathedral and with it lend their watery reflections to the river.

Paris (500px).jpg (17523 bytes)

‘Paris, France’

Watercolour. 5¼" x 8"

This drawing is one of two which I made to illustrate the delightful artistry which is Paris.

Having seen the many more obvious images of this great city, it is the lesser known views that attract me. I cannot recall exactly from where this drawing was made but, to me, it typifies the great sensitivity of line that architects achieved, and will remain the joy of the French capital.

Lake District (500px).jpg (13225 bytes)

‘Lake District looking towards Grisedale’

Watercolour and Gouache. 13¾" x 8"

A landscape impression of a small part of the great National Park. Typical of so much of this part of the country with small streams winding through the valleys while trees shelter the small cottages where sheep farmers still tend their flocks.

Padstow (500px).jpg (14994 bytes)

’Padstow - the backs’

Watercolour . I1"x 18"

Cornwall is noted for its buildings and picturesque beaches, but for me the delight of Cornwall is the endless huddle of small buildings and alleyways that are to be found just behind the coast.

‘Padstow - the backs’ is a monotone wash impression of the tumbled, slated buildings (many now shops) which hold such a fascination for me.

oystermouth castle.jpg (25993 bytes) ’Oystermouth Castle’

Watercolour. 15¾"x 12¼"

My interest in architecture and a fascination with structure in landscape well combine in the massive Oystermouth castle. With its impressive curtain walls built around the enclosed courtyard and large gatehouse, the castle combines to give a feeling of great strength and grandeur. In my drawing I try to move between fact and fantasy, a concept in which both building and landscape become one.

The Giclée Print is the finest medium to use to show the work to it’s best advantage.

The process is digital and produces prints of a very high quality to bring out the finest details from the original work. They are printed on a fine 300gsm, Somerset textured paper by Dolphin Fine Art Printers in Poole, in the UK.

Each print is then individually hand signed and numbered by the artist, and supplied in a pale ivory card mount.

Sizes are standard for each artist and shown on the page of prints.
