Well Mother is an integration of shiatsu, massage, ante and post natal exercise/education, baby massage, and relaxation.

It focuses on allowing us to grow towards our potential by working on ourselves and our children, with a special awareness of the power of pregnancy and new beginnings.

Well Mother's primary aim is to support the wisdom of parents and babies by promoting the use of bodywork, especially massage, shiatsu and exercise, as a core part of 21st century maternity care. We work both with parents (mainly in Bristol, UK) and health professionals (worldwide).

Shiatsu, massage, touch, movement and exercise are powerful tools in supporting women to contact the wisdom of their bodies in pregnancy, birth and postnatally and for parents to bond early with their developing child.

What Well Mother does

• We provide training in massage and shiatsu for holistic maternity care for midwives, shiatsu and massage therapists, childbirth educators, and other relevant health professionals.
• Support the links between all of the above groups through newsletters, conferences and other forms of networking.
• Carry out research and support research into the use of massage and shiatsu in maternity care.
• Publish articles, leaflets and books on massage and shiatsu in maternity care.

Courses are available worldwide, taught in English, French, Spanish and Italian. We also have a German interpreter who has taught with Suzanne.

Suzanne's bio ...

Suzanne Yates BA, Dip HSEC, MRSS(T)
I began by studying massage in 1982 and shiatsu in 1984, completing the three year professional training with Sonia Moriceau in 1988 and then assisting her between 1989 and 1994. In 1990, I went to Boston, USA to train as an instructor in ante/post-natal exercise with Elizabeth Noble and established "Well Mother" to support the wisdom of women and their partners with shiatsu, massage, exercise, breathwork, relaxation and discussion. I have run weekly classes and workshops for parents ever since. I served on the Avon Maternity Services Liaison Committee from 1995-2000 and am working on setting up a Randomised Control Trial on the use of shiatsu for induction, with my local hospital. I run various courses for midwives and shiatsu and massage practitioners in the UK and world-wide. I am a registered Teacher and Practitioner with the Shiatsu Society and hold the APNT qualification in therapeutic massage. I lived what I teach during the pregnancies and births of my own children Rosa Lia (b 1990) and Bram Delaney (b 1995) and continue to grow with them.
