West Camel Methodist Church is situated on the A303 road between Sparkford and Ilchester. Although Methodism in West Camel goes back to the 18th century, the present church was built in 1908 beside what was then a narrow country lane (see picture on left). This has now become the busy A303 London to Exeter trunk road. In 1998, to coincide with the 90th anniversary celebrations, extensive alterations were undertaken. This involved reversing the interior layout of the chapel, constructing a new entrance, and renovating the church hall, and now chairs replace the pews.
The membership of the church is quite small, but it is a lively and friendly church.
A Sunday Club for children of Primary School age is held in the Village Hall from 10-11am during school term-time. This is led by Paul and Isobel Jarrett (Tel.01935 850136)
Our Minister is the Rev. Ken Chalmers of Castle Cary (Tel. 01963 351598), and our Church Steward is
Liz Chapman 01935 850838
We invite you to come and meet us - you are assured of a warm and friendly welcome!
