Thank you for a super web site. I lived in Willow Well Road in Halton from 1945
- 1959, and went to Halton County Primary School, and then on to Roundhay High
School. I have been in touch with two of your e-mailers (Both male). Are there
any females out there who remember me? My name then was Ann Bolton.

my mother used to be an occasional housekeeper at the house called 'The Chantry'
and I sometime used to stay there with her to keep her company when the owners
were away. I would be interested to know what has become of this house since I
was last there in about 1955

The tank Glub fish game thing is
good... but! it needs a lot more graphic attention paying to it! The graphics on
it (sorry about this but...) are very poor. The idea is one which is good
though... and the TNUK site
is also a very good idea to promote your school.

Greetings, Congratulations on a site that is truly excellent. As an ex Leeds
girl now living in Australia since 1957,I have a severe attack of nostalgia
which feels good. I
have also joined Friends Reunited, re Osmondthorpe Primary School and as my 80
year old Mother is now with us, all this is being printed & shared with
enormous benfit.Bless you for the time and effort you have put into this, it's
the best thing I have seen on the Net yet, but then I am Yorkshire biased, keep
up the good work, will pass it on to other Yorkies..... I could stay in here al day, but who would do the chores!! XXX
Left UK in 1957 with many fond memories.Apart from the site itself, I am
grateful for the additional contacts, may there be more, ex Osmondthorpe Primary
School. Thanks& Best of Luck to a worthwhile project. Also, anyone out there
re Thoresby Girls School..circa 1931 -1937 re Vera Wetherop, my Mother?

Hi, I’m Michael Cunnington. I was at St Theresa’s RC School Crossgates from
about 1942 until 1952. The Headmistress was Sister Basil The Basher. Other staff
during my time included Mrs Donnelly, Miss Bowles, Miss Loftus, Sister Dolores,
Mr Wood and Mr Leach. I also recall the caretaker, Mr McGuire, and a priest
called Father Comerford. Please check out my basic web site at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Lane/1147/

Hello everyone, I agree with Liz, there have been a lack of messages lately and
as it's 7 months since I have sent one, (see Jan 1st) here goes. I have had a
couple of people contact me who have had family members or friends attend St.
Theresa's school in early to mid sixties and have thoroughly enjoyed reminising
with them. I just returned from the U.K. last Sunday. Enjoyed good Fish n' chips
and curry in Crossgates, (not at the same time!) Good pub grub at the white
Horse, Ledston. When did the Arndale centre become the Crossgates centre? Bye
for now

Hi Liz, I don't know you but I thought I'd send a message to hopefully make your
day brighter. This to congratulate Mike who has really put a tremendous site
together. I was one of the first users of the Whitkirk site, having stumbled
across it while looking for good web sites of where I had been stationed in
England while in the US Air Force. My wife Doreen is from Leeds and Whitkirk is
just next door. Her Aunt lived in Whitkirk for a short spell but now is in
Australia. Along with her mom and two cousins. Every now and then I write just
to say hi to all in Leeds and Whitkirk. Mike has put up some pictures of where
my wife lived and of her sister's house in Leeds. I couldn't thank Mike enough.
I've never met him but would like to. Best of luck to the Whitkirk website and
hopefully you'll get [Chuck overan the characters here -
guess that it was to say "some messages..]Ed.

Just wondering what has happened to the guest book, have there been no entries
lately? We really enjoyed reading all the entries and miss it!
EDITOR'S COMMENT - Liz, I too am puzzled at the sudden
drop-off of messages. I've done regular testing and it still seems to be
"live". If anyone tries to enter a message and gets a problem, please
e-mail me direct at : mikej@btinternet.com
with some details and I'll try and sort it. In the meantime, let's cheer Liz up
by having some messages left by people.

I have just discovered the proposed plans for the new hotel where the old
ASDA stood. I think it outrageous that such plans are afoot. This area should
remain residential, and would have no objections to a apartment block like the
one opposite the site. Do we need another hotel, there is one to be constructed
at the old Colton mill and I would doubt that the Hilton in Garforth is full
every weeknight. The increase in traffic to what is an already busy junction
(since the new link road) would put an incredible strain on Hollyshaw lane and
Selby road. Could you tell me if there are any groups that need further support
that I could perhaps contact, providing of course you agree with the protest.
Julian Kelly
Note :
There is a planning application for an 87 bedroom hotel
and 125 car parking spaces on the site behind the Brown Cow, where the old ASDA
store used to be.
The Whitkirk Web Site is neutral in these matters but
if you wished to protest, you had until 27th April 2001 to write to: Dept of
Planning, Merrion House, 110 Merrion Centre, LEEDS, LS2 8SH, Quoting Application
number "Travel Lodge 32/95/01/FU"

From: Trish Graydon Email: trishgraydon@hotmail.com
I was just looking at the Whitkirk site and found the "Hollyshaw Lane
pictures for Gerard." I lived at 42 - Braeside - from 1953 to 63. The
families who lived either side of me were called "Trott" and "Hoard". The
Hoards - Peter and his mum sold I believe to a family called Grogan. I cannot
remember who the Trott's sold to. I had very many happy years there as a child -
playing at the back of the houses and along Carter Mount.
I apologise if this is just me reminiscing. My maiden name was O'Brien
and I still have a cousin michael who lives just off Hollyshaw on
Baronscourt.

I know Whitkirk very well. I was in the Choir from the age of 7 years under
Wilf's direction, and took over as Director of Music for the Church back in
1978. I stayed in this position until 1987 and am now Director of Music at St
James the Great Manston. I have very fond memories of Whitkirk and lots of the
people associated with it. I suppose it is true to say that Whitkirk will always
seem like my home Parish. Greetings to all the people I know at Whitkirk
including Giles (who I should congratulate on his appointment), Wilf, Terry F.
The Temples, Joyce and Ken and of course the many other. Sad to hear of the loss
of so many too. Hope to be in touch again soon. David Burton

Great site.
I'm particularly keen to contact anybody who may know about the Vicar, William
Evers (also spelled Every or Eure) in 1495. All I've got so far is what is in
Platt and Morkill. I see he went from junior Chaplain to Vicar to senior
Chaplain, and I'm not sure whether the last move was a demotion or
not. This Vicar might just possibly be related to the Vevers family in Leeds,
that's if he had any offspring.
Many thanks for any help you can offer.
