My family used to live in Hollyshaw Grove in the mid to late seventies. I worked in my teens as a waitress at the restaurant at Temple Newsam - closed down many years ago. I'm having sleepless nights trying to remember the name of it! Does anybody out there remember what is was called? Rubbish wages though - 25p an hour as I recall! Happy days though!

Hi. Whilst in Whitkirk (recently), I met up with a lady that used to work at Colton Primary school from 1954 to 1977, looking after the children during playtime (monitor). It was really interesting talking about memories of this school. She knew all the teachers & dinner ladies, esp from the time that I was there 1960/62. Also, it was great to talk to someone who remembered the Whitkirk area before it changed.

Hi. Anyone seen the old pictures in the newsagents shop on Selby Road, Whitkirk ? It was really interesting to see all the detail, and how it used to look.

Have been interested in reading the Whitkirk entries, I was from Cross Gates and would like to know if a site exists for there? Would also like to get in touch with any College of Commerce students from 1936-1940 and Edna Woolford from Oakwood. I was exiled to Lancashire due to my work in 1948 and am still here !

Great to find this site from here in CT USA! I lived in Whitkirk 1944-1960 and was active in church and Arts Guild, as was my family (see Murder in the Vicarage '53). I recently regained contact with my old friend Noel Anderson in NZ after his message (see below) It would be great if there was some way of naming people in photos as it is difficult after 50 years! Also a pic of 34 Hollyshaw Lane where I lived. Good luck with this amazing site. Roger Dickinson.

Editor's Note - Roger can be found in the Arts Guild Database.

Hi there, I am a resident of Leeds but curently at Northumbria Uni studying History and Sociology. For my dissertation I am studying the Leeds music scene from the 1960's with particular reference to popular music. Having found it difficult to locate many sources I was hoping somebody may be able to link me to info of youth in Leeds during the 1960's or anything that may be of help? Thanks. Will
