Located less than a mile from Whitkirk is the fine Jacobean house known as Temple Newsam. Set in one of the largest parks in Europe, there is a rare breed farm and also an amphitheatre where shows have been performed in the open air since 1984.

In 2002, there was again some Shakespeare in the amphitheatre.
Leeds Art Theatre performed As you Like It 24th - 29th June.
Sunset Theatre Company perform Romeo and Juliet 31st July - 3rd August
