History

Raynet was formed in 1953 after licensed amateurs supplied communications to help the emergency services during the East coast floods.

In the years following, after negotiation, Radio Amateurs were allowed to pass messages for third party's in emergencys. However only for the "user services".  These were the Ambulance services, Police, fire, Goverment departments, councils etc..

Since 1953 the east coast has suffered more floods as have Llandudno, Yorkshire, Towyn. Raynet has helped at all those. Other disasters, Air and maritime have had Raynet attendance including Lockerbie, Coventry, Harowgate .. Piper Alpha, and Zeebruge.

Raynet has also played a part in overseas disasters including the Mexico earthquake.

Raynet operators normally supply their own equipment for emergency use as well as for community events,  However some equipment may be held within the group for others to use,.
