East Cowes Banner

Town GuideBack to Front Page

Norris Castle is a mock Tudor castle built by James Wyatt. It was visited by Princess Victoria and she  tried to buy it. Failure to do so, was the spark for building Osborne House nearby.

East Cowes sitting on the eastern bank of the river Medina, has arguably the best tourist attraction on the Island - Osborne House. For many years it was  Queen Victoria's main palace. Built in the Italian style by her beloved husband Albert, it is now open to the public and a must for the Island visitor. Besides the house, East Cowes does not pander to tourists and gets less attention that its prettier sister (West) Cowes, on the other side of estuary.

East Cowes has one of the Island's car ferries plying its trade to Southampton, and some sizeable factories.
