is a small village lying at the western entrance of Wootton creek. Its biggest claim to
fame is that one of the Island's car ferries docks here - which probably doesn't please
the residents. The old part of the village with its charming round village green is very
close to the ferry terminal but well hidden away. Records show that the Abbott of nearby Quarr Abbey built a stone watch tower here in the 14th century, which was later replaced by a watchouse and eventually Coastguards took up residence. The Coastguard cottages remain, without the guards though. Despite the presence of a large and regular ferry service, the yacht club thrives, and the creek still retains its natural beauty.
