| Gurnard
is a little gem of a village, that many people never visit. The village is named after a
fish called the Gurnet, and the village sailing club uses the fish on its emblem. Gurnard's size belies its importance in the past as a landing point long before Cowes became popular. There was even a Roman Villa here which has been since claimed by the sea. The beach is split by a small river called the Luck and smaller one called the Jordan. If you're in Cowes it's worth the 25 minute walk along the Promenade to Gurnard, where you can enjoy a cup of tea in the beach side cafe before returning.
