bourne widens into a creek here and the attractive village of Shalfleet is built on its
banks. It used to be a busy place with its quay serving boats bringing coal, or taking
corn. The church is typically Norman, but it's interior has thankfully escaped Victorian 'improvements'. One stained glass window depicts a bi-plane and a submarine, a memorial to the dead of the World Wars. The pub, the New Inn is delightful serving local sea-food and good ale, if you want to eat, I recommend booking in advance. The walk to the creek from the path at the side of the pub is pleasant one in the summer. By using this site you accept these terms Contact: Webmaster Web design: Laurence Baker |
