On top of the world
And now we are in 2006...

Some of last year's sponsorship

... Having done the Down Run Comrades Marathon in 2005, from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, Alastair Doyle and Jeremy Wilde went back in 2006 for the Up Run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Even though it's called a marathon, it is more than twice as long, so we were reasonably pleased just to finish last year - but didn't feel we had conquered it by any means. We put that right to a large extent this year by cutting nearly 2.5 hours off our combined time for the run. Alastair got a Bill Rowan medal in 8 hours and 37 minutes while Jeremy got a Bronze in 10 hours and 50 minutes. The photo shows us last year (Down Run) checking the route from the top, Alastair primed to Start, Jeremy loitering at the Finish.

We are both collecting sponsorship again but slightly less intensively than last year, no arm-twisting this time as we only do that every five years (at least that's Jeremy's story and he is sticking to it). As last year we are paying all our own costs, so if you do decide to sponsor Alastair by clicking here or Jeremy by clicking here then it is all going to the charities as a bonus to them with no strings attached. Thank you.

The 2005 Down Run - our first Comrades Marathon run...

We both completed the 89.17 kilometres Down Run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban on 16 June 2005; read all about our very long day (just over 10 hours for Alastair and just under 12 for Jeremy): click here for Jeremy's Word account and click here for Alastair's epic PDF.

We wanted to raise some money for charities, and we are really grateful for all the support and encouragement we had from everybody. This amounted to shedloads of money for our three chosen charities. [We chose these charities ourselves, we entered the event ourselves under our own steam and funding, and every penny of sponsorship (plus our own donations) found its way to the charities.]

We collected a total of £6600 in the following way:
Kings World Trust for Children £4500        Alzheimer's Society £1500        Starfish £600

The above Alzheimer's sponsorship page does not include offline donations of £532, but the certificate at the top of the page does.
