Who's Who ...
Alastair says ...
When I first started, Peter Nicholls was already a Junior superstar, and I still rarely
manage to get the better of him ... but I keep trying!
I love to orienteer in really technical areas, but have to admit that I can't race in
them ... the brain just can't cope with the detail, but it is still always a good challenge.
Being a soft southerner, I guess like many in the SE, I do better on comparatively less technical
terrain when you can run fast and make use of tracks and linear features.
As well as O, I dabble in the odd road race, and have plans to one day do the Comrades Marathon
in South Africa (done - June 2005, Down and 2006, Up!!) and, currently have the urge to run
the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara ... we can but dream!
The rest of the family - Fiona, Harriette, Toby and Sophie don't O as much as they used to,
as fitting in O with Rugby, Football, Dancing, Swimming and Roast Lunches is sometimes just
too much ... but we still try some weeks!!
No major claims to fame apart from having been fortunate to team up with other good Gophers
in the past for relay teams where we have not done too badly."

"I was fortunate to attend Godalming Grammar School in the late 60's when Orienteering
was in its infancy, and the school was quick to offer the sport as a Wednesday afternoon
sports activity ... and life has never been the same since! Mark Smith was in the same
year, and we both got hooked at a similar time.
Alastair really enjoying London in 2002 ... honest!!
