Another win for David. Is there no stopping him ...
I am afraid we are going to have to wait until James returns from one of his many holidays before we know the standings
after 3 events. What I can tell you is that the very much on form David Abrams notched up a very good win on the Brown
course showing some seasoned runners a clean pair of heels. Brilliant effort David. World Champs in a few years ... watch
that space!!

A hardened squad of Cappuccino and Cornetto loving Gophers headed down to Venice for a spot of street O at the
weekend and by all accounts notched up some very good results. Having mastered running on the wrong side of the
roads and avoiding Fiat's and Gondola's, James came a fine 2nd on M50L notching up a close victory over the UK number 1
Martin Dean, with Linda Pakuls 4th on W45L and Keith Tonkin 8th on M45L. Gareth and Christine also did well but were a
few places lower on their classes. Hopefully we will hear more about this and perhaps see some pictures at some
stage.
There have been some excellent results recently from GO runners. At the November Classic in the New Forest, pride of place
must go to Daniel Couldery who won JM1 at a breathtaking 6:39 mins/km ... what running. Even faster that father Pete
who had a great run on M45L and is plainly firing on 4 cylinders again. In additon to Daniel's win, James Crawford finished
2nd on M50L, David Abrams was also 2nd on JM5L and Gareth Davis was an outstanding 3rd on M55L. Looks like Gareths
injury problems may be a thing of the past for now which is good news. Not to be outdone Christine Kiddier
also managed a fine 3rd on W55L.
These very good results were however soundly put in their place by one of the best GO results for a while. Young
David Abrams .... still only M18, was a brilliant 6th on M21L at the North Wiltshire Regional event at West Wood,
covering the 13.3 km at 5.50 mins/km pace and taking some notable scalps in the process. Well run David, but slow down
a bit ... this outrageous speed is not good for such a young body!! Any tips that you would like to share with the
clubs old duffers would be most welcome. Keep it up ...
Looks like the weather gods smiled on us yet again. What an absolutely beautiful morning and despite the chill in the
air it looked like most folk seemed to enjoy the event and the delights of Puttenham Common. The bracken was not
as bad as it can be earlier in the season which made running direct possible in most areas. A big thanks to the
team from GO who made it all happen on the day. Don't forget to make a note in your diary for the next GO event
at Woolbeding Common, venue for BOC 2006, which we will be holding on 3rd February 2008. Hopefully we will be
blessed with another fine day!!

We hope you all enjoyed the splendid weather and wonderful setting of Petworth Park. Thanks for coming and we hope to
see you at future GO events in the future. I hope you will agree that Capability Brown had Orienteering in mind when
he created Petworth Park!! ... job well done.
These are the events that will count towards the club championships for the coming year. The best 4 will count.
14th October 2007 : BKO district event at Hawley and Hornley, Camberley
In the Regional Events, run in your age group as per normal.
Brown : M21+
The points are based on mins/km, and the best four will count, so you can run in as few as four events,
or all of them, or anything in between. Good luck.
Einstein will perform the calculations on his abacus after each event so that the results can be put on our website as soon as possible ... we hope.
3 wins from 4 starts ... can't be bad, and just the sort of record we would all love!! That was what Natalie Smith managed at this years Scottish
6 days to win W14B. It's just a good job for the opposition that Natalie didn't also race on days 1 and 2 or the margin of victory may have been
even greater. What we need now is for Natalie to give some sound coaching to her father so that he can try and emulate these results in 2009!!
Well done Natalie.
A good turnout of Gophers enjoyed an excellent sprint race as a warm up to the AGM at Bisley. SN kindly allowed us to use the area for what turned out
to be a great thrash between the caravans and rather unusual buildings and open spaces that make up the safe side of Bisley ranges. There was no
need to worry about the live firing, as unless you made a serious navigational error, it was unlikely that any Gopher would become a moving target!! We
all move so slowly anyway that it would have been no challenge to the sharp shooters!!
At the business end of the meeting, the management team stays the same for another year, with Keith Tonkin steering the ship and making sure we keep heading
in the right direction.
The 2006/2007 Club Champions were all awared their trophies and some very tasty fudge!! Winners this year were ...
Junior Ladies : Sarah Abrams

From the club minions, a big thank you to the team at the helm for a solid year.
It was close ... way too close!! After 123 miles of rain, mud, sunshine and hills, the GO/Sandhurst Joggers/SO/MV team held on to win the David Earle Trophy
for the first time (without SLOW), just beating SLOW by 40 seconds in what must be one of the closest finishes for a while. After 15 legs the GO team had built a lead of
over 14 minutes, but a close to record breaking run by Paul Nixon from SLOW and a crippling stitch that held Kath Denton back in the middle of the run, had
both teams biting their nails as the minutes ticked away at the finish in Farnham. Luckily for GO, Kath managed to pull through the stitch and to resounding
shouts of encouragement from some very relieved spectators, managed to cross the line with just 40 seconds to spare.
So to all members of team GO a very big well done. To SLOW and the other teams from Canterbury Harriers and Saxons OC, well run, and let's hope we can get a few
more teams interested in the rather bizarre annual head bang next year. Team Captain Jeremy was a very happy bunny yesterday, and I haven't seen him look so relieved
since finishing his first Comrades Marathon with just a few minutes to spare (exactly 2 years previously, to the day)!!
A big thank you from us all to the hard core who made sure that the event happened again. I am sure Jeremy will name the main players on the NDR page when he gets
time after cutting the grass!! Full results will appear on the Web once compiled.
A quarter of "Team GO" with the David Earle trophy.
This years Surrey Hills races must go down as the wettest and coldest ever!! Rain you can cope with, but
the 4 degree temperatures added a nasty side to the run and I suspect a few folk found the going very
hard ... I did!! I was so cold even after changing, that my uncontrollable shivers showered me with coffee
as I sat trying to warm up in the car ... I didn't need a spoon to stir my brew!! Full marks to the teams from
SLOW and MV who still turned out in force to stage the event yet again. Your efforts really are appreciated. Roll
on next year and perhaps a warm day for a change ... like we had in the old days!!
Young David Abrams continued his good form for the year winning the C course ... well done, and full marks to Ed
Catmuir on thrashing us all on the 18. Not only did Ed perform well, but sister Caroline won the ladies 18 in fine style.
On the 10 miler Dave Rollins notched up a fine win ... well run Dave.
David has been selected for the Summer Tour to Uppsala (twinned with the famous resort of Downsala!!). Well done David, and
a just reward for an excellent year of Orienteering. Keep it up.
At the British Individual Championships held at Pwll Du on Sunday 5th May, the Couldery family had two fine results. Daniel won
M10B, whilst a slightly older and injured Pete managed a fine 3rd place on M45S. Pete has been dogged with injuries for a long time now, so lets hope
he can shake off these problems and return to winning ways soon on the long courses. Daniel has plainly inherited his fathers skills
with map and compass, so a big well done from GO on a great result.
On a chilly and windy second outing on Pwll Du on the Sunday, team GO had a couple of good results at this years British Relays. The ladies team of Linda Pakuls,
Jenny Nicholls and Christine Kiddier were an excellent 3rd on the W50 course, and seemed to enjoy the well deserved podium placing, whilst the
old duffers team of James Crawford, Alastair Doyle and Peter Nicholls were delighted to retain the M50 title on terrain that doesn't really
suit their head down and wellie round the paths South East style!!
David has been named as one of the two reserves for the European Youth Championships which are due to be
held in Hungary at the end of June. Well done David for some rock solid efforts in recent months and lets
hope you get the chance to run. If you do go, watch out for stinging nettles ... been there, done that, had the
stings ... wicked !!!
