You can try Orienteering at any time by visiting a permanent course.

Guildford Orienteers have, with the assistance of Surrey County Council, established a Permanent Orienteering Course at Newlands Corner. This is a well-known local beauty spot adjacent to the A25, about 4 miles east of Guildford on the way to Dorking. O.S. grid reference TQ493043. There is a large car-park, a cafe and a tourist information centre operated by Surrey County Council. The information centre sells Orienteering Packs for £1.50. The pack contains

  • a pre-marked map
  • a control card
  • control descriptions
  • and a leaflet explaining Orienteering for first-timers.

Controls are represented by wooden stakes with a control code carved on them. The leaflet offers a choice of three courses, two being easy and the third being moderately more difficult. The area comprises of rolling wooded downland with spectacular views to the south, a very lovely situation.

Should you experience any difficulty in obtaining maps, please contact the club.
