Cameras:

Virtually all of the photographs on this Web site have been taken using Canon EOS 35mm SLR's. The models used has varied from time to time and I am currently using a EOS1n and a EOS3. Both have there good points and my ideal camera would probably have features from each. In the future I will be adding new photographs, mainly U.K. landscapes, taken with my medium format Mamiya RZ67. This is a camera that I enjoy using very much, but until now have not been able to produce scans from the transparencies. It is also far to heavy to take on foreign trips.

Lenses:

All of my 35mm lenses are also from Canon, comprising the normal selection of zoom's, prime's and macro optics. I haven't brought a new lens for years as I have the focal length's that I need for the type of photographs that I take. I particularly like the flexibility offered by the 1.4 and 2 times extenders when used with the 'L' series lenses. My favorite lens is probably the EF70-200 f2.8L (pictured right).

Film:

All of the photographs that appear on this Web site have been taken on Fuji film. Most have been on Velvia, Sensia or Provia. I currently use a mixture of Velvia and Provia 100F. I rarely use print film, but there are a couple of images taken on Fuji SuperG 400.

Computer:

This web site and the images on it have been put together using a home built computer, the current specification includes dual 1Ghz PIII's, 1Gb of DDR RAM and a RAID array. The other essential is a good monitor and I use a 19" Mitsubishi Diamond Pro, which is a flat fronted CRT.

Scanner:

The photographs on this web site have been scanned using either a Nikon LS-1000, 35mm film scanner or a Nikon LS-8000ED, multi-format film scanner. The older scans from the LS-1000 are at a resolution of 2700dpi while the new scans from the LS-8000 are 4000dpi. The LS-8000 enables me to scan the medium format slides that I have, as well as 35mm.
With the LS-1000 I was able to produce exhibition quality prints of about 38cm x 25cm from 35mm slides but I will eventually end up re-scanning the original images on the LS-8000ED, in order to obtain the maximum print quality.

Printer:

All my prints are currently produced on an Epson 1270 ink jet printer. Using Epsons Premier Glossy paper and the maximum printer output of 1440 x 720, exhibition quality prints are possible to a size of about 38cm x 25cm from the 2700dpi scans. Larger print sizes are possible from the 4000dpi scans.

Software:

I use Adobe's PhotoShop software for all my photographic work, from scanning to printing. Much has been said by others about this software but it is still the best package for photographic work. Like many other people I probably only use 10% of its functions and I still need to learn much more.
