After the re-building of the church in 1902, this organ was given by the Revd. E. A. Donaldson. It was made in 1791 in London by John Avery, probably for a private house. It came to Black Torrington from Berrow church in Somerset, having previously been in the Parish Church of Brent Knoll, Somerset. It was restored in 1987 by William Drake with the help of grants from the Pilgrim Trust, the Leche Trust and the Northcott Foundation.

The date of the organ's case is not known, but it is likely to have been made for the organ while at one of its former locations. The organ was built as a 'finger & barrel organ' but no barrels or mechanism remain.
