Roger Yates, Organ Builder
1905 - 1975
After an apprenticeship with Henry Willis in London from 1922 to 1928, Roger Yates purchased the organ building business of C. F. Lloyd in Nottingham in 1928. He worked there until 1937 when he moved to Bodmin, Cornwall taking several of his employees with him. During the War, he was an artificer in the Royal Navy. In 1946, he moved to the Old Rectory, Michaelstowe, Cornwall where he worked on his own until 1972. During his work for St Andrew’s Priory Church, Stogursey, Roger Yates suffered a stroke and was unable to continue work.
