LIVING HISTORY
Gerry Martin used to attend Wimborne Infant School but has lived for nearly forty years in Australia. By chance he found our site on the Internet. He offered to email us some of his experiences. We think they are fascinating ...and look forward very much to the next episodes.

EPISODE 7 - a handy glossary for your vacation in Australia

Right, now, where were we? Oh yes before we go any further I had better explain the differences between Oz. and English. Australians tend to take the short way out and most of this is slang. Unlike Europe there is very little dialect difference between the states. In Queensland they tend to put "A" on the end of sentences and younger Victorians use "But". Similar to the "you' of Wiltshire."Werst bin then you?".

OZ SLANG

Nice odd things in Oz.

In Melbourne trams still operate main method of travel in the city areas.

In NSW double decker trains.

40-50% of vehicles run on LP gas ( ask teach!)

Some school children that live in very isolated bush areas do their school work over a two way radio network.
