OFFSHORE RACING
2000
Windward Sailing has for the past 5 years offered individual places on their race yachts to compete in Offshore races set predominantly by the Royal Ocean Race Club. (R.O.R.C.) who are the main governing body for offshore racing and set courses that test the stamina and skills of all the crews.
We specialise in racing and offer places only on race yachts, from pedigree Class 0 Grand Prix yachts for those who like the thrills and spills of big yacht racing to the more conventional Sigma 38 which offers a few more creature comforts. All the yachts that we use have originally been designed for racing and are competitive.
Our skippers have years of racing experience and only enter a race with one goal and that is victory. Training and advice will be given during each race to make sure that both the yacht and crew are sailing to their optimum performance.
This year there are several regattas and long offshore races that go to make up one of the most interesting programmes that has been put together for quite a number of years the programme overleaf lists the races that we plan to take individual crew on. Below is a little more information on the 'Big ones' of the year
15th July Ford Cork
Week
This series of Inshore races based from Cork, Ireland is fast becoming the place for Inshore Racing. The Regatta offers excellent courses with excellent drinking! The price includes the delivery to and from Cork. This will give you an ideal opportunity to familiarise yourself with every aspect of the yacht. Inshore racing demands fast response times from all of the crew.
6th August Cowes to La
Rochelle
This is a biannual race that is held on alternate years to the Fastnet race. 450 miles of Offshore racing that takes you past Ushant and onto the picturesque city of La Rochelle. Once arrived we will then take a few stops off at various ports on the way home before arriving home on 15th August.
20th August - Non Stop Round
Britain and Ireland
To mark R.O.R.C.s 75th anniversary they have included this non-stop 1760 mile race around Britain and Ireland. It will be 1760 miles of pure hard work. We hope to complete the race in 10/12 days. R.O.R.C have stipulated for safety reasons that each crewmember must have completed at least 300 miles of offshore racing under RORC in the preceding 12 months on their competing yacht.
