CHALLENGE 2000
ROYAL OCEAN RACING CLUB
NON STOP ROUND BRITAIN &
IRELAND
The Round Britain &
Ireland Race will certainly be a tough challenge for experienced and novice
sailors alike, more testing than the famous Fastnet Race but we expect it to be
an adventure of a lifetime. This race is 1760 nautical miles and with so many
headlands to round and bays to cross it will be an extremely interesting
experience for all concerned.
Windward Sailing has had
many years of experience in organising crews for the Fastnet Race and
specialises in high performance yachts. We would expect to finish the Round
Britain Race three clear days ahead of most rival charter yachts.
After a very successful 1999
racing season we are offering individual crew places on our Corby 45 race boat
"INCISOR" which was designed and built for us two years ago
specifically for offshore racing and has won various Royal Ocean Racing Club
trophies with individual charter crews onboard. An information sheet on Incisor
is attached.
The Royal Ocean Racing Club
has very stringent rules to ensure the safety of competing yachts and their
crews. They insist that competitors in the Round Britain and Ireland Race have
taken part in either the 1999 Fastnet, or three hundred miles of offshore
racing since August 1999 in the competing yacht. Windward Sailing has a full
racing calendar and potential crew members who need to gain the required
experience can take part in any of the RORC races listed in our attached Race
Calendar and benefit from a 30% discount on the prices listed.
The yacht will have a fully
qualified skipper and mate who have between them successfully competed in ten
or more Fastnet Races. They have extensive knowledge of the boat and all
aspects of offshore yacht racing. Full training is given both before and during
the race. Our aim is, that at the end of the campaign all crew members will
have the ability and confidence to step on to any race yacht and become a key
member of any team, be it helming, sail trimming or navigation. The skipper
will be happy to pass on any knowledge he has gained through thousands of miles
ocean racing.
The race starts from and
finishes at Cowes on the Isle of Wight and the course distance is reckoned to
be approximately 1760 nautical miles, based on Incisors' time to complete the
Fastnet Race we should take twelve days to finish the Round the Round Britain
Race.
