Structural
design is in general an interactive process in which there are three main
steps :- (a) The proposal of a structural configuration, (b) The model
of the proposed structure which is representative of all important aspects
in order to analyse the behaviour of the structure under load, (c) The
comparison of that structural behaviour with specified design criteria.
Structural scantling drawings are produced using classification authorities
rules and regulations. The rules provide strict guidelines and great care is
taken when interpreting these rules to ensure all criteria are met. The
scantling drawings are approved by both client and classification society before
being handed over to Functional Design for further developments and detail
work.
