Frequently Asked Questions

Question What files should I be backing up ?
Answer You should backup all of the files in the 'players' directory. If any of the other game files are damaged you can recreate them again by running the 'worldBuilder' class (See Installation Instructions).

Updated 23rdFebruary 2000

You should now take a backup of the following directories:
Question What's this new skill system and where are the levels ?
Answer It was felt that the old level based system where you got points for killing everything and selling items was very limiting. For example if there were 20 levels what did you do when you reached level 20 ? With the new skill system you can build up a mage for example and when you get fed up with the character start to train as a warrior or something else.
Question So if there are no points for killing things why whould I try to kill a Dragon and probably die when I could easily go around killing Imps in safety ?
Answer The more powerful the creature, or the harder the quest or whatever the greater the rewards will be. For example more powerful creatures will have more powerful items for you to claim.
Question What are the chances of all the characters being lost again ?
Answer The chances of characters being lost again are very, very slim. The only reason it happened from Alpha3 to Alpha4 was because of changes to the core of the WolfMUD codebase. Hopefully to give everyone a better game. Please remember this is an Alpha version of the game still.
Question The world is still very small with only a few zones. When will this change ?
Answer Now the new skill system is in place and working there is now time to develop some more zones to keep people interested. Keep an eye on the website for more to come.
